RANDOM MIX

FAQ

Is the music really generated? #

Yes, and the word for how is procedural: the music is built from rules rather than files. Each genre is a recipe of real music knowledge (BPM ranges, scales, chord progressions, swing, drum kits), and when you press play the engine rolls the dice inside those rules, composes the song, and synthesizes every sound live on your device. There is no generative AI involved: no music model, no training data, no cloud. There are no audio files or model weights to download, just the rules and the synth. HOUSE sounds like house and LOFI sounds like lofi.

Can I keep and use the music I make? #

Yes, freely. Every song is synthesized from scratch on your device; nothing is sampled from existing recordings, so there are no copyright strings attached. In the full game you can export your takes as audio, save them, and use them in any creative project: videos, streams, games, your own tracks, commercial or personal. No attribution required. And because some songs are shared by design (the daily, share codes), every player gets the same license: registering an export with YouTube Content ID or any similar system is forbidden for everyone, so a claim against your video would be illegitimate and easy to dispute. The export page has the details, including what to do in the unlikely event a claim ever hits your video.

TLDR: the odds of a bad claim are very low, and your own songs are unique to you. Only the daily is the same song for every player, so to be extra safe, feature your own songs in recordings and streams instead of the daily.

What are share codes? #

An RMX1 code is a short piece of text that recreates a song exactly: same notes, same sounds, same mix, rebuilt from the code alone. Copy it from the share dialog and send it to anyone; pasted into the CODE dialog, it plays what you heard. No internet or account involved.

How do I back up my progress? #

In the full game, Settings → GAME has three options: back up a save file (.rmxsave), copy a save code (a text string you can paste anywhere), and import either one back.

Where can I get the full game? #

On Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux, on Google Play for Android, and on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. The Steam version is in Early Access: it is fully playable today, and it keeps growing with free updates.

Does it work offline? #

Fully. The store versions never need a connection. The web version works offline after the first load (it installs as an app if you use your browser's install option).

The timing feels off on my device #

Run Settings → Controls → Calibrate. Phones and TVs add audio latency the game cannot detect by itself; calibration measures it once and applies it to the hit windows.

What is in the free demo? #

9 of the 50+ genres (HOUSE, POP, HIP HOP, LOFI, ROCK, TRANCE, NIGHTCORE, DREAMCORE and MASHUP), all five play modes and the Star Warp arcade mode. Saving, history, share codes, playlists, exporting and the CREATE studio unlock in the full game; the demo walks you through what share codes and exporting look like so you know what you are getting.

What is a mini DAW? #

DAW stands for digital audio workstation, the software studios use to produce music. CREATE mode in Random Mix is a mini DAW: a small, friendly studio built into the game. You get a drum grid, effect knobs labeled in plain words, a melody editor, per-lane instrument choices and a live mixer, and every change plays instantly and can be undone. No music theory needed. It makes real tracks and skips the intimidating parts.

How do I get in touch? #

Player help, bug reports and genre requests: support@randommix.app. Business and press inquiries: business@randommix.app. If a report is about one specific song, paste its share code into the email.
